Designer Series Paper Sale – Featuring Magnolia Lane DSP

09-19_dmain_dsp_naThere are only a few days left to take advantage of the annual Designer Series Paper Sale (“DSP”)!!  It is going on right now and ends on September 30, 2019.  For every three packs of select DSP you purchase, you get one pack for FREE.  Time to stock up on your favorites and use that gorgeous DSP in all your creations!

Designer Series Paper included in Buy 3, Get 1 Free offer

One of my favorites, Magnolia Lane, is included in this sale.

When I was growing up my mother had the most gorgeous magnolia tree in the yard.  I always loved how it would blossom in the spring with the delicate pink and white blooms.  She has been gone eighteen years now but when I saw the Magnolia Lane Suite in the catalog it instantly brought back those fond memories and it was number one on my wish list.

The suite consists of; the Good Morning Magnolia stamp set, Magnolia Memory Dies, Magnolia 3D Embossing Folder, Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper, Magnolia Lane Large Specialty Memories & More cards and envelopes, the Magnolia Lane Memories & More card pack, Magnolia Lane Ribbon Combo pack, Magnolia Lane Cork Embellishments, and So Saffron Stampin’ Blends combo pack.

All these items can be purchased separately, the stamp set and dies as a bundle (save 10%) or new this year get the entire suite with just one item number and still save 10% on the stamp set and dies!

IMG_3091 (1)
I had so much fun playing with this suite, the ideas just kept flowing!  The Designer Series Paper can be used as a background or as an accent on the card but some of the blooms can be cut out using the coordinating dies.
Card #1:
IMG_3092 (1)
I used a Basic Black card base.  Along the right side of the Petal Pink panel,  I stamped the magnolia bud using Petal Pink ink to create a tone on tone effect.  Then I layered a piece of DSP on the left and wrapped a piece of Petal Pink Organdy Ribbon across the middle securing in the back.  The saying is stamped in Mossy Meadow ink then cut out using a Stitched Oval die and three little pears are added to the middle.  It is attached to the card front using dimensionals.  The blooms on the DSP paper used, can be cut from one of the coordinating dies.
Card #2:
IMG_3093 (1)
For this card I stamped the magnolia bud using Memento Tuxedo Black ink then colored it with Petal Pink and Mossy Meadow Blends and cut out with the matching die. I stamped the saying on Whisper White with Mossy Meadow and cut it and a Petal Pink piece out using the Stitched Nested Labels.  The card base is Petal Pink with a layer of Mossy Meadow and a piece of DSP.  This time I ran the ribbon vertically and attached to the card base.  Then then attach the bud on top of the saying then to the card base with dimensionals.
Card #3:
IMG_3094 (1)
This was a fun card because I love to color!  The large bloom was stamped with Memento ink on Whisper White and then colored with Petal Pink and Mossy Meadow Blends.  I ran a panel of Petal Pink through the Layered Leaves 3D embossing folder to create some texture.  On the bottom a piece of beautiful striped DSP.  And yup I used the Petal Pink Organdy Ribbon again, can you tell I love this ribbon???  The saying was stamped using Mossy Meadow ink, cut with a Stitched oval die and a few pearl accents were added.  The flower and saying were attached to the card front with dimensionals.
Card #4:
IMG_3095 (1)
This is my favorite, a fun bridge card!  The card base is Petal Pink with a Mossy Meadow bridge.  The two outer panels have floral DSP with striped DSP on the the two inner panels.  The bloom is colored with blends and the sayings are stamped with Mossy Meadow.
IMG_3097
To assemble the card, after attaching all DSP and center panels fold the card over as shown.  Attach the assembled bridge to the two outer panels only so when opens it creates that 3D look but folds flat for the envelope!
I hope these projects have inspired you to use Designer Series Paper in your own projects!

Don’t forget the sale ends on Monday September 30th!

Making the world a happier place, once card at a time!

In the jungle..the mighty jungle..

I bet you now have the classic song by the The Tokens stuck in your head right now, I know I do.  While I type this I’ll just be singing a-weema- weh, a weema weh,a weema-weh……

image2

I am loving the Animal Outing set right now, not only does it have the cutest images but it just screams out to be colored by Stampin’ Blends.  This bright cheery card was one of my projects for my stamp club this month and my ladies LOVED it!  It features Lemon Lime Twist paired with Smoky Slate and focuses on the little Rhino and his bird friend. And what makes this set even better, I received it for free when I went to OnStage this past April.

image2 (1)

It is an easy card perfect for any level stamper.  Don’t be intimidated by the Blends, they are super forgiving and easy to use.  If you love to color this is the project for you!

Directions:

  • You will need Smoky Slate for your card base 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″, a piece of Lemon Lime Twist (4″ x 5 1/4″), a strip of Whisper White (2 1/4″ x 4″), a strip of Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper (2″ x 4″) and a piece of Whisper White cut from the largest Stitched Square framelit.

image3 (1).jpg

  • Next stamp the rhino image onto the stitched square using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  Hint: When using blends you need to use a dye based ink so the lines don’t blur.  And when water coloring you need to use a solvent or archival ink.  Just remember opposites attract.  When using alcohol to color with use a dye or water based ink and when applying water use a solvent based ink.

image4 (1).jpg

  • Next you want to color your image using Stampin’ Blends.  I used light & dark Crumb Cake for his horn, light and dark Granny Apple Green for the little bird, dark Pineapple Punch for his beak, light and dark Smoky Slate for his body, light Flirty Flamingo for the inside of his ears and light Granny Apple Green for the grass.  If you make a mistake and go outside the lines or want to add a highlight you will use the Color Lifter.

image1

  • Stamp the greeting on the bottom using Tuxedo Black Memento ink.  Stamp the leaves around the edges using Lemon Lime twist ink.  Attach the Lemon Lime Twist DSP to the Whisper White strip.

image2 (2).jpg

To finish the card adhere DSP strip to the middle of the card using SNAIL and the entire panel to the card base.  Finally attach your little rhino to the middle using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Time for a change – Part 1 – The Color Revamp

“Don’t be afraid of change. You may lose something good  but you may gain something even better.”                                                                                                      ~ Unknown

I love change, whether a new hair style or color, moving furniture in my house or reorganizing things in my office or house.  But I know some people are resistant to change they like things to always stay the same.  No matter which category you are in,  I guarantee you are going to LOVE the new colors that Stampin’ Up! is introducing in the new 2018-2019 catalog!  I know I will miss a few of the retiring colors but the new fresh colors taking their place are so stunning I cannot wait to start creating with them!!  And not only are we getting new colors but the ink pads have been redesigned!!

First off let me explain what is happening with our exclusive color collection.  Each year five In-Colors are introduced and five In-Colors are retired.  These colors are around for two years so this year the colors from the 2016-2018 grouping will leave us and the 2018-2020 colors will be introduced.  That is usually it, but this year Stampin’ Up is doing a complete color revamp!  They are retiring thirteen colors and not only bringing back six previously retired colors but they are introducing ten brand new colors, for a total of sixteen new colors!!!  The collections have been reconfigured and they have added a Basics collection consisting of Whisper White, Very Vanilla and Basic Black.  The last time a complete color overhaul took place like this was in 2010!  We did have a refresh in 2013 where several retired colors were brought back but there were no new colors  (other than the In Colors) introduced.

Now for the ink pad redesign.  We are all used to the push and flip method of opening the pads, now all you have to do is open the pad like a compact and slide the lid into place.  In addition to this the ink has been reformulated to reduce bubbles so you will get exceptional ink coverage.  All this in a flatter pad that stacks to save space and a sticker that gets placed inside so you can always see the color at a glance!

Since there is so much information I want to share with you, this post will be two-parts.  Be sure check back later this week for Part 2, an up close look at the new ink pad design, including several tips on using them!

And without further ado, let’s see the retiring In-Colors, the new group and the five from 2017-2019 that are staying for one more year!

It’s Time to Sale-A-Brate!!

DSCN0981

This is my absolute favorite time of the year!  Sale-A-Bration is in full swing and as an avid paper crafter I am always excited when I can get more for my stamping dollar. This year Stampin’ Up! went all out, not only can you choose from some awesome stamp sets, there is ribbon, Designer Series Paper, Kits, Thinlits, and a even a Dynamic Textured Embossing Folder!  And not only can you get a free item for every $50 you spend you can also choose a few offerings at the $100 level.  Such choices…where to start??

First up a new style stamp, photo realistic.  It is patent pending and makes such an impressive statement.

DSCN0983

For this card I used Calypso Coral, Basic Gray and Whisper White.  The little pearls are colored using Calypso Coral and Smoky Slate blends.  Such an easy way to color coordinate all your projects!

How about something fun for a birthday?  Party Pandas is perfect!

DSCN0987

The fun bright colors of Lemon Lime Twist and Melon Mambo make this a card anyone would love!  The Melon Mambo balloon is created using the Balloon Bouquet punch then I added some Basic Black bakers twine for a cute little bow.  To give the balloon some dimension the edges were sponged using Melon Mambo ink then attached to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For a quick and easy card try using Beautiful Peacock!

DSCN0989

The colors of Lemon Lime Twist and Bermuda Bay go beautifully together, very peacock like don’t you think?  This card is done very clean & simple leaving a lot of white space and the set is photopolymer so lining up the peacock is a breeze!

Finally as I mentioned, Stampin’ Up! has added a few items that are available at the $100 level.  One of those is the Celebrate You Thinlits and they coordinate with the Amazing You set available at the $50 level.  If you have an order of $150 or more not only will you earn Stampin’ Rewards but you can get the set and coordinating thinlits for free!

DSCN0985

For this card I used the colors from the stunning Painted with Love Specialty Designer Series paper; Calypso Coral, Melon Mambo, Powder Pink, Rich Razzleberry, Whisper White and accents of Gold Foil.  I cut the “YOU” from Melon Mambo and “amazing” from Rich Razzleberry cardstock.  The little heart was cut from the Lots to Love Box Framelits Dies using Calypso Coral.  I decided to pick up the gold accents and embossed “are simply” with gold embossing powder on Powder Pink cardstock.

The BIGGEST sale of the Stampin’ Up! year is almost over.  Did you take advantage and get your FREE stamps and accessories??  If you haven’t there is still time – the sale ends March 31, 2018.

Making the world a happier place, one card at a time!

Boom! An explosion box, fun to make and even more fun to give!!

DSCN0900

I have been wanting to try an explosion box for a long time.  With fall sneaking up on us so fast, I got to thinking that a haunted house for Halloween would be perfect for my first one!  These amazing boxes look like a regular present until you lift off the lid and all the sides fall down to reveal a little 3D scene hiding inside.  They may take a while to construct but I can’t tell you when I have had this much fun paper crafting!  It was so therapeutic designing it, cutting all the little pieces and trying to come up with creative ways to make all the parts.   Such a great time, even my husband got in on the fun helping me come up with a fun way to make the little fence! Since this is a complex project I did write a pretty long post but please take the time to read it all.  There are a lot of fun tips hopefully you will be inspired to make your own explosion box!

DSCN0902

The first step is to assemble the box bottom.  It is a piece of 12″ x 12″ Whisper White cardstock, scored at 4″ and 8″ on all four sides.  Download the template and box assembly tutorial here.

Next I added the squares of Basic Black to the outside of the box and the Happy Halloween Designer Series Paper (“DSP”).  I wanted the back panel to stand up so the moon and tree would show up behind the house.  Before I adhered this panel to the box, I attached the tree and moon DSP to the Pumpkin Pie square.  Then I drew extensions of the branches using a Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker and two little bats were cut from Basic Black and adhered to the moon. This was set aside.  To make the panel stand up I cut three small trips of scrap cardstock 1″ x 4″ and bent them into an “L” shape.  They were adhered to the back panel and base allowing it to stay upright.  Then I attached the moon panel on top to cover the strips. Next the squares of polka dot DSP were added to the remaining three panels.

I used a piece of Soft Suede cardstock in the center. Since I wanted it to look like a patch of dead grass and dirt Soft Suede ink was sponged randomly on this piece to give it a little “texture”.  The letters B-O-O were cut from Pumpkin Pie cardstock and a little clear Wink of Stella was added to give them a little sparkle.  They were added to the center of the bottom three panels with dimensionals.

I stamped five ghosts on Whisper White with Memento Black ink and cut out using the ghost die. Three were attached to the letters and I set the other two aside to use later.

Now it’s time to start the house.  I have loved these cute little houses since they were introduced last year.  First I cut two of the houses using Basic Gray cardstock. Before assembling I used the embossing paste and brick decorative masks to make the bricks. Since I wanted a slight gray tint, I added a few drops of Smokey Slate into the paste and mixed it all up.  After the bricks were dry I assembled the house using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (“MLG”).  The shingles were cut from Basic Black and attached to the roof.  Don’t throw away the scraps from cutting the shingles, we will use these later on!

Learn how to mix Embossing Paste here

I cut the window frames from Basic Black.  They were glued to scraps of So Saffron then cut them out.  The door is Smoky Slate stamped with the Hardwood background stamp and cut out.  The door frame is Basic Black and the door knob is a little pearl.  One of the ghosts was attached to the house and a few bats were attached in the windows. When fully assembled the house was then glued to the bottom of the box using MLG.  Set aside to dry.

On to the cemetery.  Now this is where I had to really think outside the box.  What was I going to use for the tombstones???  I started flipping through my framelits and looked at the popsicle from Frozen Treats, yup that’s it! I cut two from Smoky Slate and one from Basic Gray, sponged with Basic Gray ink to give the appearance of stone.  They were bent and the trimmed.  The last ghost was attached to the center tombstone so he is peeking out.

The little fence proved to be quite the challenge.  My husband came to my stamp room to see how I was doing.  I was playing with different things but I was stuck on what to use to make the little fence.  He happened to be sitting across from me and was playing with the scraps from the cut shingles  He grabbed my snips, cut a little and voila a little fence! LOVE that man!  Not only has he always supported me in my stamping business but he always willing to help me when I get stampers block.

20246041_10207139065314625_6654075788584763017_n

Me & my husband Brian

The path was torn pieces of Basic Gray then sponged with some Soft Suede to age them.

The final step is the box top.  Cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock 8 1/4″ x 8 1/4″. Score at 1″ and 2″ on all four sides. Download the template and box lid tutorial here. Assemble the box lid according to the tutorial.  I based this part of the template on the banker’s boxes I use at work for storage.

Attach a Pumpkin Pie square with polka dot DSP panel on top.  Stamp the cat image From Spooky Cat using Pumpkin Pie ink on Whisper White, cut out with the cat punch.  Two ovals were cut from Basic Black and Pumpkin Pie to layer together.  “Trick or Treat” was stamped using a Basic Black Stampin Write marker so I could ink each word separately.  After assembling the oval the cat was adhered using a dimensional.  To add a little extra something, two bats were added and a black rhinestone dots the “i”. The completed oval was attached to the lid using dimensionals. To finish it off a strip of 7/8″ striped ribbon was attached to the edge of the lid.

DSCN0905

And the final project!

DSCN0901

I knew this little haunted house was going to be a lot of fun to make!  Of course after I was done with this project my head was swimming with all kinds of ideas.  I can’t wait to try my next one!

The Perfect Way to Give a Gift Card!

DSCN0871

I’m sure you are like me and so many others, you want to get the perfect gift for someone but sometimes times a gift card is the only way to go. I know gift cards feel so impersonal like you just gave up and grabbed the first thing off the rack in the grocery store. Ok maybe that’s true, we have all been there. But I am going to show you how to make it VERY personal. Yes here it is folks, the perfect solution to giving that not so personal gift card….. the one and only greeting/gift card! I have seen similar ideas on Pinterest, and thought WOW what a great idea!! Unfortunately I didn’t pin it so I can’t give credit to the person who gave me the inspiration for this card.  This was one of the projects we made for my August monthly stamping club.  It is so easy and sure to be a hit with the recipient!  Enjoy!

DSCN0873

Let’s get started!!

Cardstock dimensions:

  • Night of Navy Cardstock 4 1/4” x 11”
  • Whisper White cardstock 4” x 5 1/4” (1), scrap pieces for daisy and saying
  • Daffodil Delight cardstock 4 1/8” x 5 3/8” (1) and 1 3/4” x 3 1/2”
  • Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper (“DSP”) 1 1/2” x 3 1/2 “

1.  Score your Night of Navy cardstock at 5 1/2″ and 9″. Fold on score lines and use a bone folder to get a nice sharp crease.  Punch a half circle on the end that folds over for the gift card. This gives a little notch to pull the gift card out.  Put adhesive on the outer edges only and fold over to create a pocket.

         [DOWNLOAD THE TEMPLATE HERE]

2. Attach Delightful Daisy DSP to the small strip of Daffodil Delight cardstock and attach to card front.

DSCN0883

3. Stamp the daisy from the Daisy Delight stamp set on a Whisper White cardstock scrap twice using Night of Navy ink. Cut out using the Daisy punch. Tip: Slide your punch to the left and right, don’t pull it toward you after punching out the daisy.  This helps your cardstock from getting caught! Color the centers with a Daffodil Delight marker.

DSCN0890

4. Assemble the daisy so that the petals overlap each other.  Use a bone folder to curl the petals under slightly, attach to the card. Apply a gold faceted gem to the center.

DSCN0891

5. Stamp the Birthday greeting from the set Special Celebrations on a scrap of Whisper White, cut out using the 1 3/8” x 2 1/4″oval stitched framelit. Then attach to the card using dimensionals.  I really love this set, it not only includes greetings for so many occasions but it has matching sentiments for the inside of the card.  So versatile!

DSCN0887

6. Attach the Daffodil Delight panel to inside of the card.

7. Lay the Whisper White cardstock panel on the inside, but don’t attach it yet!  This is just in case you make a little boo boo stamping the inside of the card. Trust me I know from experience!  I can’t tell you how many times I have made a gorgeous card, you go to stamp the inside and a smudge here, a splotch there and the worst….. you have the dreaded ink halo around the image!  Ugh!! Now I never attach the inside panel until I have stamped it first.  If I don’t have an inside panel I stamp the inside before assembling my card.

8. With the Whisper White in place, close the card and stamp the stem and little daisy, again from Daisy Delight set, in the center of the white space.

DSCN0893

9. Stamp the inside greeting so it will be positioned under the flap.

DSCN0895

10.  Attach the inside panel over the Daffodil Delight piece.
