In the jungle..the mighty jungle..

I bet you now have the classic song by the The Tokens stuck in your head right now, I know I do.  While I type this I’ll just be singing a-weema- weh, a weema weh,a weema-weh……

I am loving the Animal Outing set right now, not only does it have the cutest images but it just screams out to be colored by Stampin’ Blends.  This bright cheery card was one of my projects for my stamp club this month and my ladies LOVED it!  It features Lemon Lime Twist paired with Smoky Slate and focuses on the little Rhino and his bird friend. And what makes this set even better, I received it for free when I went to OnStage this past April.

image2 (1)

It is an easy card perfect for any level stamper.  Don’t be intimidated by the Blends, they are super forgiving and easy to use.  If you love to color this is the project for you!

Directions:

  • You will need Smoky Slate for your card base 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″, a piece of Lemon Lime Twist (4″ x 5 1/4″), a strip of Whisper White (2 1/4″ x 4″), a strip of Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper (2″ x 4″) and a piece of Whisper White cut from the largest Stitched Square framelit.

image3 (1).jpg

  • Next stamp the rhino image onto the stitched square using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  Hint: When using blends you need to use a dye based ink so the lines don’t blur.  And when water coloring you need to use a solvent or archival ink.  Just remember opposites attract.  When using alcohol to color with use a dye or water based ink and when applying water use a solvent based ink.

image4 (1).jpg

  • Next you want to color your image using Stampin’ Blends.  I used light & dark Crumb Cake for his horn, light and dark Granny Apple Green for the little bird, dark Pineapple Punch for his beak, light and dark Smoky Slate for his body, light Flirty Flamingo for the inside of his ears and light Granny Apple Green for the grass.  If you make a mistake and go outside the lines or want to add a highlight you will use the Color Lifter.

image1

  • Stamp the greeting on the bottom using Tuxedo Black Memento ink.  Stamp the leaves around the edges using Lemon Lime twist ink.  Attach the Lemon Lime Twist DSP to the Whisper White strip.

image2 (2).jpg

To finish the card adhere DSP strip to the middle of the card using SNAIL and the entire panel to the card base.  Finally attach your little rhino to the middle using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Featured Stamp Set – Eastern Beauty

Welcome!  This is going to be the first installment of my new series that will feature one particular stamp set from any of our current catalogs.   I always find there are sets in the catalog I might not like or I just turned the page not giving them a second glance UNTIL I see what others have done with it, then it becomes a must have.  Or maybe you have a set that hasn’t been loved in a while, all you might need is a little inspiration to make some fabulous works of heart.  I hope you enjoy this series and if you have a particular set you would like me to feature, please send me an email and I will do my best to use it in future posts. Enjoy!

DSCN0788

This week’s set is Eastern Beauty and the entire Eastern Palace Suite.  When I first saw this set I thought to myself it’s OK, just not my cup of tea.  But I knew it was going to be a special for the month of May so I decided to order the bundle.  Once I started playing with it all I can say is WOW!!  This is one versatile set!

 DSCN0791

For this card I used the colors Tranquil Tide, Fresh Fig and Very Vanilla.  To create the doily in the middle I used the two of the medallion dies and the largest circle from the Layering Circles framelits.  The fun thing about the Eastern Medallions Thinlets is how all the parts work together,  You can mix and match the rings to make all types of designs.

See how well they fit together!  You can run it through your Big Shot using all three at once, just make sure to use the Precision Plate and roll it through several times to get a nice cut.

I stamped a few accents and the greeting then mounted on a large circle of Fresh Fig. Add a strip of Eastern Palace Specialty Designer Series Paper and you are all set!

DSCN0793

Next up I decided to used the adorable notecards that are available as a FREE gift with the Eastern Palace Starter Bundle.

I again used the medallions but changed up the middle ring and added a third ring to create  delicate cut out on the front of the card.  I placed a piece of Lemon Lime Twist DSP and stamped accents in Dapper Denim and Lemon Lime Twist Ink.  To give it a little bling , a few small pearl accents were added.

DSCN0795

This card is super easy and super quick!  There is no stamping involved, instead it uses the new Eastern Gold Vinyl Stickers!  All I did was peel and place on the Tranquil Tide card.  It creates an elegant look with no effort!  So next time you need a card in a hurry reach for these stickers and you can have a card in minutes!

DSCN0787

DSCN0792

This card uses all the elements I have shown you so far but adds a cute little gold tassel! The colors used are Tranquil Tide, Dapper Denim and Very Vanilla with accents of gold.

DSCN0796

For this card I used the new Oh My Stars Textured Embossing Folder (available 6/1/17). Colors used are Fresh Fig, Dapper Denim and Very Vanilla.  The border on either side of the center panel was made with Fresh Fig ink to create the tone on tone look.

DSCN0794

For the final card I decided to stray slightly from the colors in the suite and use Lemon Lime Twist and another new In Color, Berry Burst. To me this card says summer with the bright color combo!

I just love how every card is different yet uses the same stamps and accessories.  The little accent stamps can be used is so many ways, you can sit and play with this set all day long and not run out of ideas!  I am so glad I bought this set, it is sure to be one of my favorites and once you play with it I know it will become one of yours too!

For the month of May you can purchase two different bundles, each with a FREE gift from Stampin’ Up! See below for all the details!

Supplies Used:

Oh My  Stars TIEF Folder, Tranquil Tide Finely Woven Ribbon, Berry Burst Stampin’ Ink and Cardstock will be available June 1,2017.

Here it is….my first video tutorial!

DSCN0273

Yes after a very long wait I have finally made my first video tutorial!  I’m so excited but really nervous at the same time.

Of course with anything I do it was not without it’s moments!  My daughter really helped me and I am so grateful for what she was able to accomplish.  It took 16 takes, a lot of oopsie moments and for some reason I had issues talking.  Yes, I know how hard that is to believe but I really stumbled and bumbled along. This was so out of my realm but I have one under my belt now and I can only get better!   Thank goodness Sarah was able to get enough footage to use.  With all the editing she had to do I needed to record a voice over, wow was that hard!  I had the little headphones on and a microphone trying to recreate what I said on the original video, I felt so Hollywood!  But it is done and I hope you enjoy it, if not for the idea at least for the comedic value.  And no video would be complete without a few bloopers at the end.  Enjoy!

Today’s share is using the Limited Edition Thoughtful Branches set and coordinating Beautiful Branches Thinlits. It is only available until August 31, 2016 or while supplies last. If you would like this set, make sure to place your order before they are all gone  The technique I am showcasing uses the Brick Wall Textured Impressions Embossing Folder stamped with ink to create a realistic brick background.

DSCN0278

Cardstock & Ribbon Measurements:

  • Thick Whisper White cardstock – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • Wisteria Wonder cardstock – 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″
  • Wisteria Wonder cardstock – approx 4 1/4″ x 3″ (this can be a scrap piece big enough for the leaves/flower stamp)
  • Old Olive cardstock – approx 4 1/4″ x 3″ (this can also be a scrap piece, big enough to cut the stem and leaves with the thinlit)
  • Whisper White cardstock – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Solid Baker’s Twine – Elegant Eggplant – approx. 10″

Having Fun with the Big Shot!

This is by far my favorite tool, I use this little baby all the time!  I remember before the Big Shot debuted, when you wanted to dry emboss you needed to use a light table and brass stencils and all the fussy cutting of images, I don’t miss that at all!

The Big Shot retails for $110.00 and includes two standard cutting pads and platform. You may have sticker shock with the price, it is a lot to spend but this tool is worth every penny! The amount of time saved, plus all the awesome things it can do with it make it a must have purchase that you will use for years to come!  If you would like to know how to reduce the cost by 50%, let me know I would be glad to help you!

Now let’s get started with a simple card using both framelits and a textured embossing folder.  This tutorial will show the most popular ways to use the Big Shot; to emboss and to cut out images.

DSCN0091

Clockwise from left: Cupcake Cutouts Framelits, Confetti Textured Embossing Folder, Standard Platform, Big Shot Machine, Finished Project, Magnetic Platform, Standard Cutting Pads, Sweet Cupcake Set.

First let’s start with embossing!

If you have been stamping as long as I have, you will remember the only way to dry emboss was to use those fancy little brass stencils and the light table plus you had to be near an outlet. The Big Shot eliminates all that so it is completely portable. I have even taken mine camping!

You will need a Textured Impressions Embossing Folder or TIEF for short.  Here, I am using the Confetti TIEF.  I love this folde with how the confetti acts as a frame.  You will note one side has indentations and the other side has raised images, this is what will create the embossed effect when the two sides are pressed together.  Simply open the folder and slide the cardstock inside, then close it up.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Now we are ready to run this through the Big Shot.  You will be using a standard platform and two cutting plates, making a little embossing “sandwich”.  If you have an older platform like me it has several tabs with each one used for a different function.  Tab 2 is used to cut framelits and thinlets and Tab 1 is for embossing.  Flip open to Tab 1 and place one cutting pad on the platform.  The new platforms available through Stampin’ Up! no longer have the tabs.  Now add your TIEF on top, then place the other cutting pad on top of the TIEF. You have now created your “sandwich”.  Slide it into the Big Shot as shown, grab the handle and crank away. This is my favorite part, it will pull it along as you crank, squishing the two sides of the TIEF together making a perfectly embossed panel!  So much quicker that tracing those brass stencils isn’t it?

After embossing my panel I wanted the raised images to stand out a bit so I sponged the panel with Soft Sky classic ink and a sponge dauber.  Then I stamped the greeting using Chocolate Chip classic ink.

Next up, cutting out a stamped image with the framelits!  You will need a set of framelits, I am using Cupcake Cutouts which coordinates with the Sweet Cupcake stamp set.  And bonus…they are available as a bundle!  Not only can you save 10% when ordered as a bundle but during the month of July, my personal monthly special is purchase any bundle in the current catalog you will receive a FREE bottle of Stampin’ Mist!

Taking another trip down Memory Lane, when you wanted an image to pop off the card you would stamp and then grab those scissors and cut away.  I can vividly remember making Christmas cards one year. I loved my design only thing I didn’t think of when creating one  card was all the cutting I was going to have to do for forty cards.  I can tell you by about the tenth card my hand was cramping and I was beginning to wonder what I was thinking with all that cutting.  Not so bad with one but forty…yikes!!  If I had a Big Shot I would have had those little images cut out in records time!

DSCN0118

To make the cute little cupcake, I stamped the image first on scrap cardstock using the Sweet Cupcake set, Soft Sky and Chocolate Chip Classic ink.  FYI- For my Sunday Share next week, I will be showing how to use the 3-step Sweet Cupcake photopolymer set to get that beautiful realistic shading!  Make sure you follow me so you know when a new post is available!!  After the image is stamped it is now time to cut it out.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

For framelits I use the magnetic platform.  Since they are made from metal when you place them over your stamped image they will “stick” to the platform.  This will reduce the risk of having the framelit shift so you get a perfect cut every time!  If you haven’t invested in the magnetic platform yet, you can tape down the framelit with a little piece of washi tape or the sticky side of a small post-it note.  You want to make sure you use something that will be easily removed from the paper without tearing it.

Now we are going to make another sandwich.  Place a cutting pad down on the magnetic platform.  You might notice all the cut marks, I have two sets of cutting pads.  One set I use for framelits and the other set for embossing only.  Next comes the stamped images.  Take note the framelits have a flat side and a raised side. It is very important that the raised side is placed down over the image with the flat side facing up.  Take care to line up the framelits over your image. If you’re using the magnetic platform it will stick in place if not be sure to secure the framelit as described above.  After the framelits are in the right spots cover with the other cutting pad.  Again you made another “sandwich”!  When cutting out images, I like to run it through twice to make sure it cut through.  I crank it one way and then reverse before I take it out of the machine. And viola your images are perfectly cut out!

Once everything was cut out, I went over the images with Wink of Stella in clear to give it a little shimmer.  Then I assembled the card using a Soft Sky card base, Chocolate Chip panel then the embossed panel.  Finally I attached the cupcake with dimensionals to make it pop!

And here is the finished card….
