Happiness Blooms Suite

It’s been some time since I have posted and I am excited to be back sharing some projects with you!  I finally had some time to play this weekend and once I got started with this suite it was hard to stop!!

img_2376

Cards made using the stamp sets Bloom by Bloom from the 2019 Occasions catalog and Part of My Story from the 2019 Sale-A-Bration Catalog

The minute I saw this suite at OnStage in Orlando I knew I had to have it. I just love the bold images and bright colors, it just makes me happy looking at it!  But I think my favorite thing about this set has to be how all the products work so well together, the possibilities are bound only by your imagination.

This suite not only contains a 17 piece photopolymer set and 4 mini punches, but there is coordinating Designer Series Paper (DSP), satin ribbon, enamel dots, a textured inpressions embossing folder, cardstock pack, and a Memories & More card pack with matching cards and envelopes!  This suite has so many pieces it takes up a full three pages in the 2019 Occasions Catalog.  Although the set doesn’t have any sayings, I found the exclusive Sale-A-Bration set, Part of My Story worked really well.  As a bonus, during Sale-A-Bration (SAB) spend $50 and you can get the Part of My Story set for free!

Lets get started!

img_2400

First up I used a sheet of Happiness Blooms DSP, matching Night of Navy and Pineapple Punch cardstock, Pineapple Punch 1/8″ grosgrain ribbon, Happiness Blooms enamel dots in Pineapple Punch and my go to Layering Oval framelits.  The saying is stamped using Call Me Clover ink.

img_2402

This card shows some versatility to the set.  I started with another sheet of the DSP, this time in stripes. Night of Navy is the card base and a layer behind the Whisper White piece making the stamped images really pop.   For the butterfly I used the smallest flower and Calypso Coral ink to make wings.  For the body I used the Dark Night of Navy blend and drew it freehand, adding little antennae.  A little epoxy heart was placed over the inked heart to give it a little shine. This card is very easy to make and doesn’t require any special tools, perfect for a beginning stamper.

img_2399

This card is stunning in person, since it showcases the Grapefruit Grove Foil Sheet, available only during SAB with a $50 purchase.  It has a holographic look and is a must have for one of your free SAB items! I wish I could have really captured the beautiful colors in the photo.

The foil sheet is embossed with the Dot to Dot Textured Impressions Embossing folder and paired with some DSP. A piece of Calypso Coral 3/8″ Satin Ribbon covers the seam and adds another layer of sheen to the card. Call Me Clover and Calypso Coral are the cardsock colors used along with Whisper White.  Inks used were Grapefruit Grove for the flower, Call Me Clover for the stem and Night of Navy for the little dots to match the DSP.

img_2390

Cards made using the Happiness Blooms Memories & More card pack and matching Memories & More Cards & Envelopes

After I played only with the the set and some of the products from the suite I really wanted to dive into the whole suite. You can make some really simple notecards and full sized cards using the Happiness Blooms Memories & Blooms Card Pack and the coordinating Happiness Blooms Memories and More Cards & Envelopes.

If you aren’t sure what a card pack is, the pack contains 50 double sided cards (2 each of 25 designs) in 3″ x 4″ and 4″ x 6″ sizes, 6 single sided 4″ x 6″ specialty cards (the designs are all embossed!!) and 4 coordinating sticker sheets.  The matching cards and envelopes  have small and large cards that fit the 3″ x 4″ and 4″ x 6″ cards perfectly.  One side is Night of Navy and the inside is white.  The envelopes are white and have Night of Navy stripes along the inside flap.

These are perfect for when you need a card but are short on time or just starting out with paper crafting and have limited supplies.  There is no stamping needed just attach one of the pre-printed cards to the front of the matching card and voila, a card ready to use!!  You can leave them as is or step them up a notch adding some embellishments such as stickers from the card pack or from the suite.

img_2396

This is a perfect example of just attaching the card to the front of a little notecard like the card on the left.  It looks great as it is, the saying is already pre-printed and has a coordinating border.  If you have a few more minutes go ahead and step it up a bit.  I added a few enamel dots to the center of several flowers,  then I punched a matching flower using one of the Bitty Blooms mini punches and Lovely Lipstick cardstock.  I added an enamel dot to match the ones on the card and raised it with a mini dimensional.

img_2394

For these two I added “Time to Celebrate”, one of the stickers from the card pack, to the Congratulations card with mini dimesionals and a few enamel dots here and there.  On the little Love and Laughter notecard, I kept it simple with just a small Pineapple Punch 1/8″ grosgrain ribbon bow.

img_2393

On these two I added stickers from the card pack to both cards.  Everything is so beautifully coordinated it really makes these cards easy.  To give them a little dimension the flowers were raised with mini dimensionals.

img_2393

These two were very simple.  Since the backgrounds were so pretty I only wanted add a small embellishment.  To each I added flower stickers from the card pack and to make them pop some a little enamel dot in the center.

img_2395

To the Thinking of You card on the left I added the little strand of  circles, another sticker from the pack and three sizes of enamel dots.  To the Love & Happiness card I colored two of the small Epoxy Heart Droplets with a Dark Flirty Flamingo Blend.  Since the marker is alcohol based you can color these embellishments to match your project or leave as is and it won’t wipe off.

img_2403

These two cards I stepped up a little bit more.  For the Happy Birthday card I punched the small flowers from a sheet in the Happiness Blooms DSP pack and added enamel dots to the center of each.  Then each was attached to the card with a mini dimensional and I  added a bow made from two pieces of Night of Navy Baker’s Twine.  The notecard on the right uses stickers from the pack including “Thank You”, flowers and leaves.  Again they were attached to the card using mini dimensionals.

img_2397

This last card really steps it up.  I used one of the specialty cards from the pack that is embossed.  It’s really hard to see the embossed flowers in this picture but the one below really shows how shiny they are.

img_2398

Instead of using the coordinating cards from the suite I used a Lovely Lipstick cardbase and a layer of Night of Navy behind the embossed flower card. I cut an oval piece from the center of the floral panel before attaching to the Night of Navy panel since this will be covered by the saying. This really gives you more out of your specialty paper. From the piece I cut out, I punched the little flowers out using one of the Bitty Blooms punches.  To get the leaves I cut a small narrow strip from one of the other specialty cards that had embossed Call Me Clover circles and punched little leaves using the leaf punch from the Bitty Blooms punch pack. The saying is from Part of My Story and I stamped it in Night of Navy ink on a large scallop of Whisper White cardstock.   This was mounted to an oval of Night of Navy and attached to the card using dimensionals.

I hope you have as much fun with this set as I did this weekend!

If you purchase the entire suite, add a pack of mini dimensionals and a roll of ribbon you will get to $100.00 giving you both the Foil Sheets and the Part of My Story stamp set for FREE!

Making the world a happier place, one card at a time!!!

It’s Time to Sale-A-Brate!!

DSCN0981

This is my absolute favorite time of the year!  Sale-A-Bration is in full swing and as an avid paper crafter I am always excited when I can get more for my stamping dollar. This year Stampin’ Up! went all out, not only can you choose from some awesome stamp sets, there is ribbon, Designer Series Paper, Kits, Thinlits, and a even a Dynamic Textured Embossing Folder!  And not only can you get a free item for every $50 you spend you can also choose a few offerings at the $100 level.  Such choices…where to start??

First up a new style stamp, photo realistic.  It is patent pending and makes such an impressive statement.

DSCN0983

For this card I used Calypso Coral, Basic Gray and Whisper White.  The little pearls are colored using Calypso Coral and Smoky Slate blends.  Such an easy way to color coordinate all your projects!

How about something fun for a birthday?  Party Pandas is perfect!

DSCN0987

The fun bright colors of Lemon Lime Twist and Melon Mambo make this a card anyone would love!  The Melon Mambo balloon is created using the Balloon Bouquet punch then I added some Basic Black bakers twine for a cute little bow.  To give the balloon some dimension the edges were sponged using Melon Mambo ink then attached to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For a quick and easy card try using Beautiful Peacock!

DSCN0989

The colors of Lemon Lime Twist and Bermuda Bay go beautifully together, very peacock like don’t you think?  This card is done very clean & simple leaving a lot of white space and the set is photopolymer so lining up the peacock is a breeze!

Finally as I mentioned, Stampin’ Up! has added a few items that are available at the $100 level.  One of those is the Celebrate You Thinlits and they coordinate with the Amazing You set available at the $50 level.  If you have an order of $150 or more not only will you earn Stampin’ Rewards but you can get the set and coordinating thinlits for free!

DSCN0985

For this card I used the colors from the stunning Painted with Love Specialty Designer Series paper; Calypso Coral, Melon Mambo, Powder Pink, Rich Razzleberry, Whisper White and accents of Gold Foil.  I cut the “YOU” from Melon Mambo and “amazing” from Rich Razzleberry cardstock.  The little heart was cut from the Lots to Love Box Framelits Dies using Calypso Coral.  I decided to pick up the gold accents and embossed “are simply” with gold embossing powder on Powder Pink cardstock.

The BIGGEST sale of the Stampin’ Up! year is almost over.  Did you take advantage and get your FREE stamps and accessories??  If you haven’t there is still time – the sale ends March 31, 2018.

Making the world a happier place, one card at a time!

Boom! An explosion box, fun to make and even more fun to give!!

DSCN0900

I have been wanting to try an explosion box for a long time.  With fall sneaking up on us so fast, I got to thinking that a haunted house for Halloween would be perfect for my first one!  These amazing boxes look like a regular present until you lift off the lid and all the sides fall down to reveal a little 3D scene hiding inside.  They may take a while to construct but I can’t tell you when I have had this much fun paper crafting!  It was so therapeutic designing it, cutting all the little pieces and trying to come up with creative ways to make all the parts.   Such a great time, even my husband got in on the fun helping me come up with a fun way to make the little fence! Since this is a complex project I did write a pretty long post but please take the time to read it all.  There are a lot of fun tips hopefully you will be inspired to make your own explosion box!

DSCN0902

The first step is to assemble the box bottom.  It is a piece of 12″ x 12″ Whisper White cardstock, scored at 4″ and 8″ on all four sides.  Download the template and box assembly tutorial here.

Next I added the squares of Basic Black to the outside of the box and the Happy Halloween Designer Series Paper (“DSP”).  I wanted the back panel to stand up so the moon and tree would show up behind the house.  Before I adhered this panel to the box, I attached the tree and moon DSP to the Pumpkin Pie square.  Then I drew extensions of the branches using a Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker and two little bats were cut from Basic Black and adhered to the moon. This was set aside.  To make the panel stand up I cut three small trips of scrap cardstock 1″ x 4″ and bent them into an “L” shape.  They were adhered to the back panel and base allowing it to stay upright.  Then I attached the moon panel on top to cover the strips. Next the squares of polka dot DSP were added to the remaining three panels.

I used a piece of Soft Suede cardstock in the center. Since I wanted it to look like a patch of dead grass and dirt Soft Suede ink was sponged randomly on this piece to give it a little “texture”.  The letters B-O-O were cut from Pumpkin Pie cardstock and a little clear Wink of Stella was added to give them a little sparkle.  They were added to the center of the bottom three panels with dimensionals.

I stamped five ghosts on Whisper White with Memento Black ink and cut out using the ghost die. Three were attached to the letters and I set the other two aside to use later.

Now it’s time to start the house.  I have loved these cute little houses since they were introduced last year.  First I cut two of the houses using Basic Gray cardstock. Before assembling I used the embossing paste and brick decorative masks to make the bricks. Since I wanted a slight gray tint, I added a few drops of Smokey Slate into the paste and mixed it all up.  After the bricks were dry I assembled the house using Multipurpose Liquid Glue (“MLG”).  The shingles were cut from Basic Black and attached to the roof.  Don’t throw away the scraps from cutting the shingles, we will use these later on!

Learn how to mix Embossing Paste here

I cut the window frames from Basic Black.  They were glued to scraps of So Saffron then cut them out.  The door is Smoky Slate stamped with the Hardwood background stamp and cut out.  The door frame is Basic Black and the door knob is a little pearl.  One of the ghosts was attached to the house and a few bats were attached in the windows. When fully assembled the house was then glued to the bottom of the box using MLG.  Set aside to dry.

On to the cemetery.  Now this is where I had to really think outside the box.  What was I going to use for the tombstones???  I started flipping through my framelits and looked at the popsicle from Frozen Treats, yup that’s it! I cut two from Smoky Slate and one from Basic Gray, sponged with Basic Gray ink to give the appearance of stone.  They were bent and the trimmed.  The last ghost was attached to the center tombstone so he is peeking out.

The little fence proved to be quite the challenge.  My husband came to my stamp room to see how I was doing.  I was playing with different things but I was stuck on what to use to make the little fence.  He happened to be sitting across from me and was playing with the scraps from the cut shingles  He grabbed my snips, cut a little and voila a little fence! LOVE that man!  Not only has he always supported me in my stamping business but he always willing to help me when I get stampers block.

20246041_10207139065314625_6654075788584763017_n

Me & my husband Brian

The path was torn pieces of Basic Gray then sponged with some Soft Suede to age them.

The final step is the box top.  Cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock 8 1/4″ x 8 1/4″. Score at 1″ and 2″ on all four sides. Download the template and box lid tutorial here. Assemble the box lid according to the tutorial.  I based this part of the template on the banker’s boxes I use at work for storage.

Attach a Pumpkin Pie square with polka dot DSP panel on top.  Stamp the cat image From Spooky Cat using Pumpkin Pie ink on Whisper White, cut out with the cat punch.  Two ovals were cut from Basic Black and Pumpkin Pie to layer together.  “Trick or Treat” was stamped using a Basic Black Stampin Write marker so I could ink each word separately.  After assembling the oval the cat was adhered using a dimensional.  To add a little extra something, two bats were added and a black rhinestone dots the “i”. The completed oval was attached to the lid using dimensionals. To finish it off a strip of 7/8″ striped ribbon was attached to the edge of the lid.

DSCN0905

And the final project!

DSCN0901

I knew this little haunted house was going to be a lot of fun to make!  Of course after I was done with this project my head was swimming with all kinds of ideas.  I can’t wait to try my next one!

The Perfect Way to Give a Gift Card!

DSCN0871

I’m sure you are like me and so many others, you want to get the perfect gift for someone but sometimes times a gift card is the only way to go. I know gift cards feel so impersonal like you just gave up and grabbed the first thing off the rack in the grocery store. Ok maybe that’s true, we have all been there. But I am going to show you how to make it VERY personal. Yes here it is folks, the perfect solution to giving that not so personal gift card….. the one and only greeting/gift card! I have seen similar ideas on Pinterest, and thought WOW what a great idea!! Unfortunately I didn’t pin it so I can’t give credit to the person who gave me the inspiration for this card.  This was one of the projects we made for my August monthly stamping club.  It is so easy and sure to be a hit with the recipient!  Enjoy!

DSCN0873

Let’s get started!!

Cardstock dimensions:

  • Night of Navy Cardstock 4 1/4” x 11”
  • Whisper White cardstock 4” x 5 1/4” (1), scrap pieces for daisy and saying
  • Daffodil Delight cardstock 4 1/8” x 5 3/8” (1) and 1 3/4” x 3 1/2”
  • Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper (“DSP”) 1 1/2” x 3 1/2 “

1.  Score your Night of Navy cardstock at 5 1/2″ and 9″. Fold on score lines and use a bone folder to get a nice sharp crease.  Punch a half circle on the end that folds over for the gift card. This gives a little notch to pull the gift card out.  Put adhesive on the outer edges only and fold over to create a pocket.

         [DOWNLOAD THE TEMPLATE HERE]

2. Attach Delightful Daisy DSP to the small strip of Daffodil Delight cardstock and attach to card front.

DSCN0883

3. Stamp the daisy from the Daisy Delight stamp set on a Whisper White cardstock scrap twice using Night of Navy ink. Cut out using the Daisy punch. Tip: Slide your punch to the left and right, don’t pull it toward you after punching out the daisy.  This helps your cardstock from getting caught! Color the centers with a Daffodil Delight marker.

DSCN0890

4. Assemble the daisy so that the petals overlap each other.  Use a bone folder to curl the petals under slightly, attach to the card. Apply a gold faceted gem to the center.

DSCN0891

5. Stamp the Birthday greeting from the set Special Celebrations on a scrap of Whisper White, cut out using the 1 3/8” x 2 1/4″oval stitched framelit. Then attach to the card using dimensionals.  I really love this set, it not only includes greetings for so many occasions but it has matching sentiments for the inside of the card.  So versatile!

DSCN0887

6. Attach the Daffodil Delight panel to inside of the card.

7. Lay the Whisper White cardstock panel on the inside, but don’t attach it yet!  This is just in case you make a little boo boo stamping the inside of the card. Trust me I know from experience!  I can’t tell you how many times I have made a gorgeous card, you go to stamp the inside and a smudge here, a splotch there and the worst….. you have the dreaded ink halo around the image!  Ugh!! Now I never attach the inside panel until I have stamped it first.  If I don’t have an inside panel I stamp the inside before assembling my card.

8. With the Whisper White in place, close the card and stamp the stem and little daisy, again from Daisy Delight set, in the center of the white space.

DSCN0893

9. Stamp the inside greeting so it will be positioned under the flap.

DSCN0895

10.  Attach the inside panel over the Daffodil Delight piece.

Embossing Paste, Glitter and Sparkle..Oh My!!

DSCN0861

One of the products I was so excited about in the new catalog was Embossing Paste.  I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and play.  Today’s share uses the paste and an alternative use of the Happy Birthday thinlit.  The idea for this was inspired by a card my daughter made so I need to give her credit for the alternative use of the thinlit.  Thank you Sarah!!!

To start I wanted the paste to sparkle so I added Dazzling Diamonds Glitter to it along with Real Red and Night of Navy Re-Inkers.  When working with the Embossing Paste you do need to work quickly as it dries very fast.  I had all my supplies laid out ahead of time and as soon as the background was stenciled I immediately washed the silicone craft sheet, palette knife and mask. Also make sure you put the lid on the paste as soon as you are done.  A little note, when you first open your paste you will notice the jar is not full.  The contents will settle in shipping and it is sold by volume not weight.  If you stir the paste it will get fluffy and fill up the jar.  And a little goes a looooong way.

To get the paste on the cardstock just lay the mask on the cardstock and spread the paste on top, then use your palette knife to scrape it across making sure all the holes get filled. Be very careful not to get it under the mask.  If you look in the blue section of my card you can see where some seeped under slightly, if that happens no need to panic you can easily cover it up with an embellishment.

For the saying I cut the “Happy Birthday” twice with the Big Shot; once in Red Red and once in Night of Navy along with the number “4” in Real Red.  Simply cut apart so you have the words “Happy” and the “th” from the birthday section.  To give it more sparkle I added Wink of Stella on top and then attached to the card with Multipurpose Glue.

Featured Stamp Set – Eastern Beauty

Welcome!  This is going to be the first installment of my new series that will feature one particular stamp set from any of our current catalogs.   I always find there are sets in the catalog I might not like or I just turned the page not giving them a second glance UNTIL I see what others have done with it, then it becomes a must have.  Or maybe you have a set that hasn’t been loved in a while, all you might need is a little inspiration to make some fabulous works of heart.  I hope you enjoy this series and if you have a particular set you would like me to feature, please send me an email and I will do my best to use it in future posts. Enjoy!

This week’s set is Eastern Beauty and the entire Eastern Palace Suite.  When I first saw this set I thought to myself it’s OK, just not my cup of tea.  But I knew it was going to be a special for the month of May so I decided to order the bundle.  Once I started playing with it all I can say is WOW!!  This is one versatile set!

 DSCN0791

For this card I used the colors Tranquil Tide, Fresh Fig and Very Vanilla.  To create the doily in the middle I used the two of the medallion dies and the largest circle from the Layering Circles framelits.  The fun thing about the Eastern Medallions Thinlets is how all the parts work together,  You can mix and match the rings to make all types of designs.

See how well they fit together!  You can run it through your Big Shot using all three at once, just make sure to use the Precision Plate and roll it through several times to get a nice cut.

I stamped a few accents and the greeting then mounted on a large circle of Fresh Fig. Add a strip of Eastern Palace Specialty Designer Series Paper and you are all set!

DSCN0793

Next up I decided to used the adorable notecards that are available as a FREE gift with the Eastern Palace Starter Bundle.

I again used the medallions but changed up the middle ring and added a third ring to create  delicate cut out on the front of the card.  I placed a piece of Lemon Lime Twist DSP and stamped accents in Dapper Denim and Lemon Lime Twist Ink.  To give it a little bling , a few small pearl accents were added.

This card is super easy and super quick!  There is no stamping involved, instead it uses the new Eastern Gold Vinyl Stickers!  All I did was peel and place on the Tranquil Tide card.  It creates an elegant look with no effort!  So next time you need a card in a hurry reach for these stickers and you can have a card in minutes!

This card uses all the elements I have shown you so far but adds a cute little gold tassel! The colors used are Tranquil Tide, Dapper Denim and Very Vanilla with accents of gold.

For this card I used the new Oh My Stars Textured Embossing Folder (available 6/1/17). Colors used are Fresh Fig, Dapper Denim and Very Vanilla.  The border on either side of the center panel was made with Fresh Fig ink to create the tone on tone look.

For the final card I decided to stray slightly from the colors in the suite and use Lemon Lime Twist and another new In Color, Berry Burst. To me this card says summer with the bright color combo!

I just love how every card is different yet uses the same stamps and accessories.  The little accent stamps can be used is so many ways, you can sit and play with this set all day long and not run out of ideas!  I am so glad I bought this set, it is sure to be one of my favorites and once you play with it I know it will become one of yours too!

For the month of May you can purchase two different bundles, each with a FREE gift from Stampin’ Up! See below for all the details!

Supplies Used:

Santa’s Golden Sleigh Card

This is another card that has been super popular on Pinterest and I have had some requests for a video so here it is!

The card uses the sleigh and reindeer from the Santa’s Sleigh Framelits, a greeting from the Oh What Fun set and This Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper.

As you watch the video, you will see me use the Multi-purpose glue, which is an awesome product but it tends to get everywhere.  At the end, in typical Jo fashion, I end up gluing the card to my grid paper.  Well there is an easy fix for this, the Silicone Sheet!  I have one but it had gone missing, thinking the last time I used it I may have picked it up with papers or an old grid sheet and it now resides in my county landfill. I looked everywhere and it was no where to be found. I did order a new one but at the time I shot the video it hadn’t arrived.  If you use this mat under your project, the glue won’t stick.  If you happen to get some glue on your project, you can use my other best friend, the Adhesive Remover, to get it right off.  I just wanted to go over this since I forgot to mention it in the video.  Enjoy !
